Our model is based on a logarithmic regression of Bitcoin's price over time. The key is in the logarithmic scale because Bitcoin has followed a rough logarithmic curve since its inception. This maybe be due to the mathematics of the issuance schedule.
In 2014 Bitcoin Talk user Trololo posted an analysis of Bitcoin's price. The logarithmic regression of Bitcoin's price over time was calculated using a spreadsheet. The formula was extended into the future to predict the future price.
The chart predicted the future price accurately but it was updated infrequently. We built software to update a model daily and graph it against the historic price. That's the graph you see above. Here we are many years later and the model has held remarkably true.
